Andreas Brehme, who died unexpectedly on February 20th at the age of 63, was buried on Tuesday, according to a report. Numerous world champions were among the mourners.
Soccer world champion Andreas Brehme was buried in Munich on Tuesday afternoon. According to Brehme’s former club FC Bayern Munich, many prominent companions of the former professional, such as Lothar Matthäus, Jürgen Klinsmann and Uli Hoeneß, came to the memorial service. Rudi Völler, who won the World Championship with Brehme in 1990, gave a moving speech in honor of his long-time companion.
Former national team colleagues Guido Buchwald, Pierre Littbarski, Hans-Peter Briegel, Andreas Köpke, Karl-Heinz Riedle and Hansi Müller also took part, according to the club. Former players Giuseppe Bergomi, Nicola Berti, Aldo Serena and Alessandro Bianchi, among others, came from Milan, where Brehme was under contract with Inter Milan for four years.
Brehme died of cardiac arrest on February 20 at the age of 63. The greatest success of his career was winning the 1990 World Cup in Italy, where he scored the winning goal from a penalty in the final against Argentina.
