“I have lost a child.” Gé could not keep his tears under control, the day after the fire. On his own initiative, together with a few other local residents, he took the initiative to create a community center of an old work shed in the park. Otherwise the municipality would have phased out.
Pictoresk with a thatched roof, the Posthuis was a nice meeting place nearby. Many local residents were sad about the loss with Gé. With crowdfunding and a wild plan to even take over the building from the municipality, a number of them went to work.
Challenge
And the municipality turned out to be open to the phenomenon after a long time Right to Challengea phenomenon blown from England to challenge the government to be able to do better.
The plan has been mapped out and worked out in recent years. Many neighbors spent many hours in Timmering yourself, laying floor and drilling. Even Asylum seeker Isaac came to help. And all in the spirit of Gé Metzelaar: make a connecting place in the neighborhood with heart and soul.
His relatives are moved by the gesture, to give Gé a facing brick to his beloved Posthuis. See the report here.
