The cyclist who died this morning in an accident on the Communicatieweg West in Assendelft is a 17-year-old boy from Heemskerk. That will let the police know.
The accident, in which the boy was hit by a car on his bicycle, happened just before eight o’clock this morning. Together with bystanders, emergency services rushed to resuscitate the boy, but unfortunately that was no longer possible.
The police say they are grateful to the bystanders for the help, and refer them to victim support if necessary.
It is not yet clear how things could have gone so wrong in Assendelft. At the moment, the police investigation is still ongoing. The driver of the car has been arrested, which is common in serious accidents such as this one.
