Three North Hollanders are participating in Wimbledon. Tallon Greek track and Botic van de Zandschulp have been admitted directly to the prestigious tennis tournament in England. That was not the case for Gijs Brouwer. He worked his way through the qualifying tournament and now makes his debut at Wimbledon.
Gijs Brouwer won three matches in the qualifying tournament without losing a set. Quite surprising, because the 27-year-old tennis player from Venhuizen lost his last nine official matches. Form returned on the London grass and Brouwer secured qualification for the main draw on Thursday afternoon by beating the Finn Otto Virtanen.
Due to their high places in the world rankings, Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Grepes were already certain of participation in Wimbledon. Greek track even enjoys a placed status as number 29.
Wimbledon starts next Monday July 3 and lasts until Sunday July 16.
