Warren Zaire-Emery made a memorable debut as the youngest French international since 1914 in France’s biggest international win in history.
With their 14-0 (7-0) home win in the European Championship qualification against Gibraltar, the French surpassed their previous record from September 6, 1995 against Azerbaijan (10-0). Coach Didier Deschamps’ team has already qualified for the European Championships in Germany.
Zaire-Emery was in the starting lineup and replaced Eduardo Camavinga (21/Real Madrid) as the youngest French international since the First World War at 17 years, eight months and ten days. He scored to make it 3-0 (16th), but was overturned by Ethan Santos. The PSG talent was injured and had to be substituted with a swollen right ankle. Santos was shown a red card after a VAR check (18th).
The game started with two own goals from the guests by the unlucky Santos (3rd) and Aymen Mouelhi (4th). After Zaire-Emery’s goal, the French went after the decimated guests mercilessly: Kylian Mbappe (30th, hand penalty/75th/82nd), Jonathan Clauss (34th), Kingsley Coman (37th/66th), Youssouf Fofana (37th), Adrien Rabiot (64th), Ousmane Dembele (73rd) and Olivier Giroud (89th/90th + 1) completed the record victory.
