The Westhoek fire brigade was called this morning around 8.15 am to a large vehicle fire along the rural Hospitaalstraat that runs between Elverdinge and Vlamertinge. The tractor and trailer were reportedly on fire.
When the farmer noticed that his vehicle was on fire, he immediately attempted to extinguish his tractor, but after ten minutes the vehicle was completely on fire. The fire brigade then had to extinguish the fire in a strategic and safe manner because debris flew more than ten meters due to the exploding tractor tires. Ultimately there were no injuries.
Grid operator Fluvius will be on site to investigate whether the overhead electricity lines are still working. It is also being investigated whether the road surface has been damaged by the fierce fire.
