Debris from a rocket landed on Kees Huizinga’s land: ‘A tremendous bang’

This was accompanied by a ‘terrifying sound’, says Huizinga. “You hear them coming and you can only hope they don’t fall on you. Our army shot one out of the sky and it went with a huge bang.”

The debris then ended up on his land. “About three and a half kilometers from the farm where we live.”

“This is today’s crop of rocket parts,” says Kees Huizinga on a video he made himself. “We haven’t found the drone itself yet.”

Huizinga maintained for a long time that he could feel relatively safe on his farm in Kischenci, between Kyiv and Odessa. After all, Ukraine was about the size of France, so what were the chances that something would happen?

“The war seemed far away at the time, but now that feeling is different,” says Huizinga, who hosts refugees from other parts of Ukraine on his farm.
