The man from IJsselstein was caught by officers. A witness had first seen him take things from the rubble and put them in his pocket. Officers then noticed that the man looked shyly in their direction several times from a distance, the spokeswoman said. “After a while they approached him and the money was found.”
The 26-year-old was subsequently arrested and a case has been registered against him. According to RTV Utrecht, the Public Prosecution Service is looking into whether the man may be prosecuted further, but the police spokeswoman cannot confirm this.
gas pipeline
On April 21, the building on the Libra in Bilthoven was heavily damaged by explosions. During sewer work that day, a gas pipeline was hit. Three of the 28 homes were completely swept away. Five firefighters and two officers were injured.
All residents have found or received shelter elsewhere after the explosion, they cannot return for the time being. The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) and the Occupational Health and Safety Service, among others, are investigating the cause of the explosions.
