The death toll from heavy rain and landslides in the Brazilian city of Petrópolis has risen to 78. In the city close to Rio de Janeiro, almost as much rain fell in three hours as there had fallen in all of January. More than 180 aid workers and 400 soldiers have been deployed to the city of 300,000 inhabitants.
