Death toll after storm and torrential rain in Brazil rises to 50

The death toll from flooding and landslides triggered by torrential rains in southeastern Brazil has risen to at least 50 as rescuers continue to dig through the rubble, Brazilian authorities said Thursday night. “The more time passes, the less chance that survivors will be found. But we always work from the idea that we will still find people. There can always be pockets of air under the rubble,” rescue worker Villas Boas told Brazilian news site G1.
