Take a deep breath with YNW Melly and his mother. The lawyers for the US rapper, who has been in custody on suspicion of the double murder since February 2019, achieved their first success at a court hearing on Wednesday: The judge removed the death penalty from the list of possible punishments if YNW Melly were found guilty . The 23-year-old’s mother commented on the decision Instagram as follows:
“Death penalty has been officially removed from @ynwmelly case. Thank you Jesus #FreeMelly2022”.
YNW Melly, who gained notoriety with songs like “Murder on My Mind” and “Mixed Personalities,” is accused of murdering two of his former friends and members of the YNW crew. According to the indictment, he is said to have shot the two and then, to cover up his crime, drove his car to a hospital. He then spoke to the police of a “drive-by shooting” in which the three of them got involved. The rapper pleaded innocent in court. If the rapper is convicted of the double murder of his fellow collaborators, he still faces a life sentence.
Recently, an investigator working on the case claimed that YNW Melly had commissioned the murder of his mother in chats. Both mother and son indignantly rejected this accusation.
