The Berlin public prosecutor’s office has not yet completed the investigation into the death of the murderer of the Berlin doctor Fritz von Weizsäcker.

The results of a chemical-toxicological investigation are still pending, a spokesman said on request. The authority is running a so-called death investigation.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, there is no evidence of third-party debt. The man was found dead in his room at the correctional facility hospital on April 18. According to the public prosecutor’s office, he was on a hunger strike at the time. It has not yet been clarified whether this ultimately led to death.

The man from Andernach (Rhineland-Palatinate) was sentenced to twelve years in prison in the summer of 2020 for the murder of the doctor and the attempted murder of a police officer. The court also ordered her to be placed in a psychiatric hospital. The public prosecutor saw hatred of the family of the deceased as a motive, in particular his father, the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker (1920-2015).

Fritz von Weizsäcker was stabbed to death on November 19, 2019 in the Berlin Schlossparkklinik towards the end of a lecture. The policeman who overpowered the attacker was seriously injured. A report had confirmed the man had a mental disorder. His ability to control was significantly reduced. As a result, he was not sentenced to life imprisonment, as is usual for murder.
