The fireworks exploded in a garden on Rutjensstraat around 8:35 p.m. An air ambulance was then also called to the location in central Limburg, near the border with Belgium.
The victim died at the scene, a police spokeswoman said. She could not yet say whether it was a man, a woman or a child. It is also not known what type of fireworks they are.
The mayor of the municipality of Leudal, Désirée Schmalschläger, responds to the incident via X, formerly Twitter: ‘Started by the tragic accident with fireworks in Neeritter tonight. My condolences go out to family and friends.’
The police will provide more information later.
