The Jesus Christ Church at Hornstraße 7/8 is fenced in, and since December a poster has been informing: “We are continuing to build! As soon as possible and then also inside”. What’s behind it? The BZ followed up.
The listed building from 1963 seems a bit lost with its demure 1960s charm on the tranquil Hornstraße, where almost the entire old building stock has been preserved. This building was then placed in one of the gaps in the war and inaugurated in 1964.
The renovation of the facade has been completed, and the previously open ground floor is now being glazed in the second construction phase.
A café and a multi-purpose hall will be built. “We want to be an open neighborhood meeting point,” says Pastor Holger Dannenmann (55). The triangular church building, which is hidden behind the parish hall, also needs a refreshment.
But why the delay? Because construction costs of 5.3 million (instead of the planned 3) are now expected, work had to be temporarily stopped. Reason: The lottery foundation, which wants to add 800,000 euros, must now examine all the documents carefully. That takes a good six months!
Pastor Dannenmann: “I’m confident that we can start with the further construction at the turn of the year.” Anyone who would like to donate can find all the information under jckg.berlin.
