Deal around: Verstappen will drive for Red Bull until 2028 | 1Limburg

Max Verstappen has extended his contract with Oracle Red Bull Racing until 2028.

This makes Verstappen the highest earning Dutch athlete of all time.

Earlier this week, De Telegraaf reported that a contract extension was in the air. The Limburger had a contract with Red Bull until the end of next year. With the new contract, Verstappen will remain associated with the Austrian racing stable until the end of 2028.

Verstappen said in a reaction that it was an ‘easy decision’: “I am very proud to announce that I will be staying with Red Bull until 2028. I love this team and am very happy that we can continue this adventure for long. time. We have already achieved a lot, but we are far from done.”

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner calls the contract extension a “true statement of intent”. “Our immediate focus is on retaining the world title, but this deal also shows that Verstappen is part of our long-term planning. With our Red Bull Powertrains division working on the new engine regulations in 2026, we wanted to ensure the best driver on the grid for that car.”

World champion
Verstappen made the switch from Toro Rosso to Red Bull in 2016, during the season. Since then he has won 20 races and last year became the first Dutchman to become world champion in Formula 1.

According to sources, the contract extension is the largest and most lucrative deal ever in Formula 1. Verstappen would earn 40 to 50 million euros per year, excluding sponsorship deals. This also makes him by far the best earning Dutch athlete of all time.
