Dead woman in residential care center: suspect (55) released, Public Prosecution Service appeals

The 55-year-old man from Reusel, who was arrested last Friday after the death of a woman in a residential care center for the elderly on Generaal Cronjéstraat in Eindhoven, has been released. The court in Den Bosch determined this on Friday. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will appeal against that decision.

According to the Public Prosecution Service, the investigation is continuing and the man remains a suspect in the case. His house in Reusel was also searched last week. The report about the dead woman came to the police shortly before four o’clock in the afternoon last Friday. Caregivers were unable to contact the woman. When officers entered, they found her dead.

The suspect had already been arrested the day before
Shortly after the discovery, the 55-year-old man was arrested. He was arrested in the same apartment complex where the dead woman was found. The man from Reusel appeared to have also been arrested a day earlier, Thursday, December 21, on suspicion of domestic violence. He allegedly assaulted the woman, who regularly stayed with him, during an argument.

The woman is said to have suffered bruises, but did not report the incident. However, the case was still investigated by the police. The man denied the assault and was ultimately not taken into pre-trial detention.

Complications
A day later, the woman was found dead on the balcony of her apartment. Based on the investigation, the police therefore take into account that the woman died from complications as a result of the assault the day before.

There are currently no indications that the suspect was with the woman a day later, the day she was found dead. Further investigation must reveal what exactly happened, the Public Prosecution Service says.
