Dead person found on Terschelling beach

A body of a deceased person was found on the western beach of Terschelling on Sunday morning. The identity of the victim is currently being investigated, police said Twitter. The police are looking at whether it is one of the two people who went missing after a boat accident near Terschelling two weeks ago.

A water taxi and a speedboat collided in the morning of October 21, after which the water taxi sank with eight people on board. The accident killed two people and injured four others. Two others, a twelve-year-old boy and a twenty-nine-year-old man, are still missing. Soon after the collision, the chance that they would have survived was considered small. It is still unclear how the two vessels collided.

At 07:00 on Sunday morning, the police received a report about the body, which was found near the Groene Strand in West-Terschelling. The accident also took place near that beach. The body was brought to the mainland in the morning for examination. A police spokesman said nothing was known about the gender or age of the person found.

The coastguard is still looking for a possible second body, the police spokesman said NRC. Various currents in the water have made the search for the missing persons difficult over the past two weeks.
