A motorist was killed in an accident on the Van Boekerenweg just across the border in Stadskanaal early this morning. The victim is an 18-year-old young man from the Groningen municipality of Oldambt.
The accident happened around 4:30 am. The driver collided with a tree. Emergency services were unable to save him and he died on the spot from his injuries. The police are investigating how the accident could have happened.
