BRANDSEMDuring a planned search in the Molenlei in Merksem, a fatal victim fell this morning. This is confirmed by the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.
Neighbors say they were woken from their sleep by a loud bang around 4.30am. A front door of a house in the Molenlei is said to have been blown up. After that, extra police teams and ambulances arrived from all sides.
“No one has been allowed out of their house since that bang. The entire area is cordoned off with police tape and fencing. The mine clearance service is also on site,” said a local resident.
The prosecutor’s office confirms that one person was killed during the search. According to initial information, the search is separate from a drug investigation.
