Dead dog found in canal probably drowned

The dead dog found in the canal along the Dongensekanaaldijk in Tilburg on Tuesday evening appears to have drowned. Police say that the owner reported on April 22 that his eight-month-old pup Chapito had jumped into the canal and was unable to get out due to the current. The owner says he is ‘devastated with grief’.

According to the Tilburg owner, this happened at the TweeSteden Hospital, about four kilometers from the place where Chapito was found. “I had put the rope around the dog’s neck so he wouldn’t get entangled while he was running loose along the canal,” the owner said via animal control.

One and a half hour
“Here he relieved himself and then he ended up in the water.” The owner tried to save Chapito and called all kinds of authorities in all the hectic. Only the dog had already disappeared under water when the police arrived an hour and a half later, writes the Dierenambulance Brabant Noord-Oost. The agents took no further action.

The bull was only eight months old and had a chip with a Romanian country code. The found dog has the same chip number that the owner passed on April 22. Chapito was a white puppy, but because he has been in the water for so long, the dog has completely discolored.

Allegations
According to the animal ambulance, the dog’s owner is ‘devastated with grief’ and very upset about accusing everyone via social media. He misses his boyfriend enormously and therefore wants him to get a dignified farewell. He hopes to cremate Chapito so he can get him home soon.

The police have seized the dead dog and it will remain there for further investigation. The man was able to say goodbye to his dog in the animal ambulance. Police have not yet confirmed the dog’s cause of death. This is what forensic animal research in Purmerend must reveal.

The dog was found in the canal by Rowena on Tuesday night. She sat with the dog for three hours before help arrived.
