Dead birds at the Maas: bird flu may be the culprit | 1Limburg

Several dead water birds have been found near the Maas near Baarlo and Kessel. They may have been affected by bird flu.

The municipality of Peel en Maas announced this on Wednesday.

Research
Three cadavers of the waterfowl were taken for research. This should show whether the animals were infected with the bird flu. Bird flu is a contagious disease that affects poultry and other wild bird species.

dogs
The bird flu virus can be transmitted to dogs, but then there must be bite contact with infected bird carcasses, according to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

The municipality advises dog owners to keep their four-legged friends on a leash near the Maas. It is also not recommended to let a dog swim.
