Dead and two injured in serious accident N242 near Alkmaar, rescuers hindered by bystanders | Inland

Three cars were involved in the serious accident. One person, a 21-year-old man from Heerhugowaard, was killed. A 27-year-old man from Heerhugowaard was taken to hospital for treatment with serious injuries. A 53-year-old man from Friesland suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

At around 07:10 a.m. Monday morning, a head-on collision occurred on the N242 near Alkmaar. A passenger car with the 27-year-old driver was driving in the direction of Heerhugowaard, when it shot through the central reservation for unknown reasons and ended up in the opposite lane. There the car collided with an oncoming vehicle. The drivers of the two cars were both trapped in their vehicles. Emergency services quickly arrived and two lifeliners were called. The victims were freed from their car and first aid was given. One of them was resuscitated, but to no avail. The man died on the spot from his injuries.

The 27-year-old victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A third vehicle was also involved in the accident during the collision, the 53-year-old driver of this car suffered minor injuries. The N242 has been temporarily closed for the emergency services and the technical investigation.

During the work, the emergency services were repeatedly hindered by bystanders who tried to take photos or videos. A number of people had to be sent away by the police to give all emergency workers the time and space to do their necessary work.
