The police have made two remarkable finds in fields near Gieten in the last week and a half; dead and injured pigeons turned out to have been dumped there. In total there are about 175 birds.
The first 75 pigeons were found on the Winterdijk near the village in the weekend of 5 and 6 March. Most of the birds were dead, others were very emaciated and covered in poo.
Seen two men
Last Sunday morning another hundred pigeons were found. They had been dumped on a field on the Veenhoverdijk. The police expect that these animals will not survive either. All living pigeons were so weakened that they no longer flew away and can easily be picked up, the police reported on Facebook.
A witness saw two men in a dark blue delivery van at Veenhoverdijk. They got out and then threw paper feed bags full of pigeons over the field. Police are investigating and are calling on anyone who knows more to come forward.
