In Afghanistan and Pakistan, at least a dozen people died in a strong earthquake on Tuesday evening. Several people were also injured.

At least nine people were killed and at least 30 others injured in the northern Pakistani province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, according to the local disaster management agency. In Afghanistan, there are currently two deaths, including a child.

The Pakistan Meteorological Agency reported that the earthquake in the capital Islamabad had a magnitude of 6.8 after both the US seismological institute USGS and the European seismological center EMSC had previously stated a magnitude of 6.5. According to the USGS, the epicenter was in the northern Afghan province of Badachshan, more specifically in the village of Jurm, at a depth of 187 kilometers. The shock was also felt in some parts of India.
