Two Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops who raided a home in the West Bank. According to the Israeli army, it is a senior commander of the militia Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades and “another terrorist who was in the house”.
About 30 Palestinians were injured, the Red Cross reported. The Israeli army says a firefight broke out when troops in Nablus surrounded the home of a wanted man. Clashes with the army also broke out in other parts of the occupied city. Stones were thrown at soldiers.
Israeli security forces have been conducting almost daily operations in the West Bank for months, focusing on Islamic Jihad militants. The new clashes come shortly after the start of a ceasefire that the group and Israel concluded after three days of violence.
Israel began “preemptive” bombing of Islamic Jihad positions in the Gaza Strip on Friday. Militants in that area responded by firing more than a thousand rockets. 46 Palestinians died and about 360 were injured. The ceasefire, which came about with help from Egypt, went into effect on Sunday evening.
