De Wolden works together with Meppel and Hoogeveen in the field of education for Ukrainians

De Wolden is seeking cooperation with Meppel and Hoogeveen in the field of education for Ukrainians. It is difficult to organize suitable lessons within the municipal boundaries.

In De Wolden, seventeen children are cared for in the age group of four to twelve years. It is possible for children in the lower years to join regular education in the municipality. But it is more difficult with the children who are a bit older, because of the language barrier, according to the municipality.

It is the intention that they continue the lessons in Hoogeveen or Meppel. Special classes for Ukrainian children have recently been set up in those places. There they can take lessons and receive guidance in Dutch and in their own language.

The municipal council of De Wolden previously expressed the wish to organize education as close as possible to the reception locations in the municipality. The school boards indicate that, given the small target group, it is not possible to design separate classes.

“In order to be able to offer a safe and pedagogically appropriate learning environment for these children, cooperation has been sought with our neighboring municipalities”, can be read in a letter from De Wolden.

Of the seventeen children in De Wolden, two are still being taught at a school in De Wolden. Three others are now going to Meppel and twelve children have been given a place in Hoogeveen. The Ukrainians are, where necessary, supported by the Student Transport.
