De Week van Drenthe: TT, but also a lot about agriculture and Drentse Landbouwhuis

It’s the week of the TT. TT festival, TT Night Ride, TT campsites, TT Night and of course the races themselves. Italy’s Francesco Bagnaia took the win in MotoGP today. But some other things happened in Drenthe this week as well. A small overview.

Agriculture in particular was in the news this week. About 170 farmers in Drenthe and Groningen may have to deal with a substantial additional assessment from the tax authorities. They cultivated wood on their farmland, in consultation with the government. The Tax and Customs Administration now considers it forest land and will issue an assessment if the land is sold or transferred. The Supreme Court is currently considering the matter.

The agricultural consultations have been definitively discontinued, after the farmers’ organization LTO resigned during the negotiations. Now that no one is sitting at the negotiating table anymore, the ball is back in the Cabinet’s court.

Even more agricultural news came from Assen this week. Then it specifically concerns the former Drenthe Agricultural House. This will be converted into a reception center for 180 Ukrainians. It will be the fourth place in Assen where refugees from Ukraine are accommodated.
