De Peiling: I think I do enough for a better climate

Take shorter showers, separate waste or go to work by bike instead of by car. All relatively small adjustments that counteract climate change. Do you also contribute, or do you feel that your behavior will have no impact?

You may remember the slogan from the 1990s: ‘a better environment starts with you’. In other words, you need to change your behavior to prevent climate change. But do you feel that what you do really helps? A common answer to that is ‘no’. Many people do not feel that their individual behavior has a positive impact on climate change. That powerless feeling can lead you to take no action at all. Worrying, especially now that climate change continues unabated.

Objectively speaking, the impact of the individual is small, of course, but still bigger than you think. For example, if others see that you are making an effort, they are more likely to do the same. And, for motivation: if we really change our behavior en masse, we can emit 40 to 70 percent less CO2!

Are you still doing your best to do something for the environment? Or do you not feel that you as an individual can make a difference.
