De Lijn cancels certain journeys until the end of the year due to staff shortages: mainly Antwerp and Mechelen affected | Interior

De Lijn has announced more details about the bus journeys that will be canceled from 1 September due to staff shortages. The Flemish transport company expects the adjustment to remain in force until the end of the year, it says in a press release.

The list of bus lines on which De Lijn is temporarily reducing the number of journeys is longest in the regions of Antwerp and Mechelen. The transport company also intervenes on bus lines in the vicinity of Ghent, Kortrijk, Turnhout, Hasselt and Brussels.

The impact would be limited to 0.75 percent of the supply. “On certain routes with a large supply, the frequency is slightly reduced without causing significant problems. Busy lines and school rides are safeguarded,” said the transport company.

The intention of the measure is to be able to offer a reliable service, instead of unexpectedly having to cancel journeys.

NMBS also scraps

De Lijn is not the only transport company with staff shortages. Railway company NMBS has also canceled journeys in recent months for this reason. For example, since the beginning of 2022, only three IC trains per hour have been running between Brussels and Antwerp. From September 4, there will be four again, but elsewhere the NMBS is still canceling certain journeys.
