De Kleijn fastest in Roosendaal, Olav Kooij remains leader in ZLM Tour

Cyclist Arvid de Kleijn has won the third stage of the ZLM Tour. The Tudor rider won the sprint of the peloton and was the first to cross the line in Roosendaal. The podium also consisted of the Italians Jakub Mareczko, yesterday’s winner, and Matteo Moschetti. Olav Kooij could not compete for the victory, but remains the leader in the standings.

The start and finish of the ride were in Roosendaal. After 190 kilometers through the west of our province, it was De Kleijn who turned out to be the fastest. “It was difficult,” the proud winner admitted. “At one point I had a puncture and had to wait a long time for another bike. My teammates brought me back into the peloton. That allowed me to finish it.”

Kooij was not surprised that he was not in the front during the sprint. “Most of our attention is focused on defending the leader’s jersey,” said the Jumbo-Visma rider afterwards. “We have to keep control and we succeeded. In the final it was not possible for me to compete for the main prize.”
