FC Barcelona has secured a good starting position in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The away match against the German Eintracht Frankfurt ended in 1-1. Substitute Frenkie de Jong provided the assist for Barça’s equalizer.
De Jong bounced beautifully in the 66th minute with Ferran Torres, who controlled the ball from close range. After an hour, De Jong had joined the team for Pablo Gavi.
Ansgar Knauff had given Eintracht Frankfurt the lead shortly after the break with a nice shot from distance. The midfielder took the ball with the left after a deflected corner and worked the ball with the outside of his right foot behind the hopeless keeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
The home team thought they would be awarded a penalty in the first half, because Sergio Busquets would have fouled Rafael Borré. However, after reviewing the images, the arbiter ruled that Busquets played the ball and reversed his decision.
At FC Barcelona, Memphis Depay and Sergiño Dest were missing due to injuries. Gerard Pique was sidelined in Frankfurt halfway through the first half with an upper leg injury.
