De Flint students temporarily housed in Roden during demolition and construction

When OBS De Flint in Nietap is tackled, students will temporarily go to school in Roden. At CBS De Parel there is room left to accommodate the three classes of the school.

Councilor Kirsten Ipema (Municipal Interests) expects that a blow will be made to the renovation plans for the school before next summer. The old building will be demolished and a new, multifunctional center will be built in its place. There will also be room for the village hall and a childcare center.

“We went to the neighborhood to see if we had room to house the students,” says Ipema. “For us it is more economical to take care of the children somewhere where you already have space. That was the case at De Parel.”

The older children will soon have to cycle from Nietap to Roden every day. For the younger children, we will check whether other transportation is needed, Ipema said. “We are trying to limit transport movements and are in contact with parents about how they envision this in the future.”

The final design of the building is currently being worked on. “A work team from the municipality and a delegation from the village hall are working on this,” says the councilor. She hopes to see the final design soon.

It remains to be seen how much the building will cost in total, but in the autumn of 2023 the costs were estimated at 3.2 million euros. It is not yet clear when the shovel will go into the ground, but Ipema is counting on having everything completed before the summer holidays.
