Gas prices have jumped sharply in recent days due to the situation in Ukraine. According to the prime minister, the government is looking at whether additional measures are needed to print the bill. Within the majority, for example, there were already pleas to also bring the VAT on gas to 6 percent.
“We now live in a different world than a month ago and this will have far-reaching consequences,” the prime minister told ‘VTM Nieuws’ on Sunday. He talked about a new world in terms of security, but also in terms of energy. “All countries are reviewing their energy strategy, we were already working on it. It makes sense that at a time like this you take those new evolutions into account.”
“I don’t think we can say that we are going to normalize our relations with Russia in the coming years. So you have to take that into account,” said De Croo.
According to him, the government will be able to keep its “cold-bloodedness”. “We will make reasoned decisions, which also think sufficiently ahead, and which take into account what is happening today. No one has asked for that, but you cannot close your eyes to it.”
On March 18, the government must decide whether all nuclear power plants will close by 2025, or whether the two youngest plants will remain open longer.
De Croo also stated in the ‘VTM NEWS’ that our country will supply extra weapons to Ukraine for the fight against Russia. Read more here.
