In De Boerhoorn in Zuidwolde, Boaz and Sem are watching attentively as a caterpillar squirms over their hand. They are not the only students who are amazed at the meeting center that has been transformed into a butterfly garden. Nature association Zuidwolde has realized a botanical tour de force.
Joop Verburg looks on with satisfaction, the nature association celebrates its fifteenth anniversary with a butterfly exhibition. The chairman almost seems to be short of hands and feet to keep an overview between all primary school students who come to take a look, but also sees an opportunity to enjoy. “This is one of the highlights of the year for us. It takes a lot of preparation, so we won’t just do something like that again,” Verburg laughs.
The nature association has therefore not done half work. In recent days, all kinds of members helped to prepare the butterfly exhibition for this so-called butterfly week in Zuidwolde, which started today. The absolute highlight of the exhibition is a completely darkened room, in which there are large, illuminated tables with all kinds of plants and flowers. “It’s totally alive!” exults Verburg.
