De Bijenkorf: now also rent clothes

Who doesn’t know it: There are occasions such as a wedding, a gala or an important business meeting for which you have to dress up, but afterwards the newly bought item of clothing is usually lying around in the closet because it is only suitable for special occasions. The Dutch luxury department store De Bijenkorf has come up with a solution for this and has been renting occasion wear under the name “De Stijlstudio” since the beginning of April, initially in the shop in Rotterdam.

There the style studio is located on the first floor, where customers can find unique dresses from designers such as REDValentino, Balmain and Alexander McQueen, a carefully selected collection from brands such as Ted Baker, Maje, Moncler, Ralph Lauren and LK Bennett in various Can rent sizes as well as Coach, Chloé and Jacquemus bags.

“With the “Stijlstudio” we want customers to feel special in a sustainable way. The challenges in the area of sustainability are great and only through creative solutions can we, together with our customers and brands, make the fashion industry more sustainable,” explains Marjolijn Meynen, director for customers, creativity and communication at de Bijenkorf, in a statement.

The Style Studio is not only intended for special occasions, but also for those who want something new or otherwise unaffordable. Prices range from 45 to 500 euros for a standard rental period of four days, including sustainable cleaning and return.

Already last year, de Bijenkorf introduced a range of sustainable services such as crockery rental, vintage clothing sales, clothing repair and refillable packaging as part of its sustainability strategy ‘The Future is Green’.

With the clothes rental, the company wants to continue this effort and, should the new service be well received in Rotterdam, plans to expand it with more clothes, accessories, shops and options during the year.
