DAZN could soon have a price increase

The final price increase at DAZN was only a few weeks ago, and there are already rumors of a further increase in fees.

At the beginning of 2022, the news that DAZN was raising its prices caused quite a stir. The main reason was the height at which the increase took place. The price has doubled from EUR 14.99 to EUR 29.99 per month. The annual subscription now costs EUR 274.99 instead of EUR 149.99. Initially, this adjustment only applied to new customers, but since August 1, 2022 it has also applied to subscribers who are already paying. However, many fear that due to inflation, among other things, DAZN could soon be planning another price increase. what’s up

Price increase at DAZN has upset many

The increase in subscription prices by 100 percent caused displeasure among DAZN customers. However, DAZN boss Alice Mascia, who has been in office since May 2022, says that the prices should have been raised much earlier. First and foremost, this is likely to have something to do with the increased costs for licenses. The streaming service shows a lot of football from different leagues.

Mascia also says in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung: “We started six years ago with ten euros a month, but now we have a much larger program, many more rights, also in the premium segment, and also a product that is significantly better quality.” nevertheless unusual. If you want to watch football comprehensively, you have to dig deep into your pockets accordingly. 30 euros for DAZN, another 30 euros for Sky, 8 euros for Amazon Prime and, most recently, 5 euros for RTL+ result in 73 euros – per month!

Could DAZN raise prices again soon?

In fact, the price hike still doesn’t seem to make DAZN “profitable.” At least that is what Mascia says. In addition to football, the streaming service also offers various other sports such as tennis, American football, basketball, boxing, handball and much more. So far, however, it is unfortunately not possible to book packages for individual sports and thus save money. The licenses of the big leagues are likely to be expensive.

In order to cover these costs and make a profit, DAZN actually keeps the option of a further price increase open. “DAZN wants to be profitable in twelve to eighteen months from today,” says Mascia. “That’s our goal, maybe it’ll work a little earlier.” So it’s quite possible that the subscription costs will increase again by the end of 2023. Perhaps DAZN will also expand its subscription model and offer customers more booking options; however, Mascia did not comment on this. However, a very timely price increase is relatively out of the question.
