Kind en Gezin, which supervises the crèches, recently decided to suspend the recognition of the Butterflies of Elshout as of 1 March in case of urgency. That news caused a lot of fuss last week, especially because the manageress appeared to have been sentenced to 1 year in prison at the beginning of last year for degrading treatment of some of the children, facts dating from 2017 and 2018.
Due to the suspension, the crèche is not allowed to care for a single baby or toddler for two months. The suspension came after a new complaint in February. Nevertheless, the crèche reopened its doors yesterday, “unilaterally and without prior approval”, according to Kind en Gezin.
The manager’s lawyer said that the crèche had lodged an objection on Tuesday against the suspension by Kind en Gezin. “The submission of that objection suspends the implementation of the decision in accordance with the legal provisions, so that the crèche has reopened.”
Kind en Gezin asked the municipality of Schoten to draw up a closure order against the crèche.
