Day record broken, but we probably won’t get the hottest day ever in Drenthe

It is the warmest July 19 ever in Drenthe, the day record was broken this afternoon at 2.30 pm, RTV Drenthe weatherman Roland van der Zwaag said.

The record was 34 degrees. It was no surprise to the weatherman that we would break this record. “In these times, many day records are broken, that has to do with the change in the climate. But I don’t think it will be the warmest day ever in Drenthe.” That record stands at 39 degrees in July 2019.

“We will probably not get there right now. The temperature will continue to rise for the time being. The hottest moment of the day will be the afternoon. I expect at least 38 degrees in the Hoogeveen region and in the east of Drenthe. the southeast wind picks up and I expect that we will stay below 39 degrees.”

According to Roland van der Zwaag, we can prepare ourselves for a real sticky night. “It stays warm for a long time, only when the sun goes down will the heat go out a bit. But because of the heat in, among other things, walls and streets, the cooling is slow. Only in the morning do we reach 18 or 19 degrees. So all night we stay above 20 degrees. Good luck with your sleep in Drenthe!”

By the way, the heat record is only official if it is measured at official outdoor stations. So, according to Roland van der Zwaag, it may well be that it rises above 39 degrees in sheltered spots full of the sun, but that does not count as an official heat record.
