“Day of Club Culture”: Culture prize for the Berlin club scene

As part of the third edition of TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, the 40 best Berlin clubs and collectives will once again be presented. The events will take place from October 3rd to 9th.

TAG DER CLUBKULTUR is a project of the Berlin Club Commission, the Senate Department for Culture and Europe, and Musicboard Berlin and celebrates the cultural and artistic commitment of Berlin’s club culture. The 40 best clubs and collectives will receive a culture prize of 10,000 euros. In the week from October 3rd to 9th, the individual clubs can put their format to the test and present it throughout the city as part of a showcase festival.

Berlin has more than 200 clubs – if you want, you can always party (apart from Corona). Under the motto “GROWING ROOTS – SHAPING SPACES”, the event explores how club culture spaces can be defended and developed in the future. An application is required to participate. Based on certain criteria such as diversity, sustainability or the promotion of young talent, the Board of Trustees then evaluates the submitted documents and makes a selection for the final award winners.

Applications must be submitted between August 1st and 15th and contain a short presentation and a personal statement on this year’s main topics “Roots” and “Spaces” – the award-winning clubs will then be announced in mid-September. Katharin Ahrend, project manager of TAG DER CLUBKULTUR, explains: “Especially in times when club culture is repeatedly stigmatized in a variety of ways and pushed to the margins of society, I am particularly pleased that with TAG DER CLUBKULTUR we are creating a format and can continue that shows and makes accessible club culture in its specialness and artistic, cultural and socially integrating power”.
