Two fire trucks were then sent to the smoldering remains to extinguish the fire again. According to a spokesperson for the Kennemerland Safety Region, it is not serious and no new fire has arisen. “It’s open scrap, leftovers from yesterday’s fire, with a little smoke coming from it.” This may still lead to smoke or odor nuisance today.

The very large fire started early Monday morning and smoke clouds could be seen all day long in the area and the fire could be smelled well. As far as the IJmond, people received an NL-alert with the request to close windows and doors. In the end there was a lot of stench, but no asbestos.

Employee Jacco was present when the fire was just raging. He said against NH News that it started around 6:30 am. “After we discovered where the fire came from, we immediately started extinguishing it.”

According to Jacco, the fire started in one of the cold stores. “We couldn’t get the fire under control ourselves. The bulbs are stored in crates of wood and plastic. The fire quickly spread because of the polystyrene foam in the walls. In Dutch, this sucks with seven o’s”.

fire master

The police called on people in the Rivierenbuurt to leave their homes on Monday morning. There was some commotion about this because the Security Region reported that this was not necessary. After the ‘fire master’ signal, people wanted to return to their homes, and the municipality allowed that. But the police first sent the residents of Heemsteden away. Soon after, everyone was allowed to return home.
