Dax (8) and Stan (7) want to be able to cycle safely to the football club

Dangerous for cycling. According to the inhabitants of Kruisstraat, this is the road between Rosmalen and the village. It is especially dangerous for children on bicycles. And so there was a demonstration on Saturday afternoon.

“I find it scary to cycle here.” The 8-year-old Dax walks along with his football friend in a demonstration through Kruisstraat. Whistle in the mouth and together they hold a banner. “They drive really fast here,” says Dax. “Sometimes up to 80 kilometers per hour.” And so does Stan. “It is not safe to cycle here.”

The new De Groote Wielen neighborhood near Rosmalen is getting bigger and bigger. And that means that more and more children are playing football at RKKSV in Kruisstraat. They then have to cycle over a narrow cobblestone road between the Rosmalen and the village. The same road is a shortcut for a lot of traffic that wants to avoid the crowds on the A59.

“We really want to change that now,” says Maarten Schutgens. They have been working on getting the road adjusted for years. But nothing has changed yet. And they think that should happen in Kruisstraat. “A lot of young football players cycle on this road.”

The simplest thing the village proposes is chicanes (artificial curves) on the road. “That would slow down traffic,” Schutgens says. “It’s an easy cheap solution. But so far we have not been able to do that with the municipality. It seems that Kruisstraat does not matter in the municipality of Den Bosch.”
