Davy Propper quits football at 30: I lost my love for football

A surprise retirement decision was made in PSV Eindoven, one of the Eredivisie teams.

PSV’s 30-year-old Dutch national midfielder Davy Propper has announced the end of his career. The player’s retirement decision was announced on the club’s website.

Stating that he lost his love of football, Pröpper said that he felt this way especially while playing abroad and that his psychological state did not change when he returned to the Netherlands.

“NOW I HAVE TIME TO SPEND MY FAMILY”

“I realized that I was gradually losing my love of football during the period I played abroad. I found the necessary discipline extremely difficult. The pandemic period did not do me good either.”

“I am grateful to my club for bringing me here this summer. When I come back to the Netherlands I was hoping that the fun in football would return for me. Unfortunately that didn’t happen because I didn’t feel comfortable in the football climate. I don’t want it anymore, so I’m done.”

“I’ll find out exactly what I want, what my passions and interests are. Will I miss football? We’ll all see. Now I have time to spend with my family.”
