The dates of the Davis Cup change again. In concert with the players, the organizers of Piquè’s Kosmos have moved the group stage from November, the period in which it was played last year, to September. In addition, the matches will be played in four different cities, instead of the three that hosted the group stage of 2021. The qualified teams go from 18 to 16, divided into four groups of four and the top two of each group will advance to the final phase. The selection process for the candidate cities to host one of the groups is underway: the venues should be made official in March.

After the qualifiers on 4-5 March, with Italy playing Slovakia in Bratislava, the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals is scheduled for 14 to 18 September. The final phase, from the quarterfinals onwards, will instead be played from 23 to 27 November in a single venue yet to be announced. “The changes – reads the ITF and Kosmos press release – are the result of feedback from the players and captains and have the aim of relieving the pressure from the programming point of view. Furthermore, with this new format, the Davis Cup Finals will finish a week earlier than the 2021 edition “. The Russian Tennis Federation and Croatia, finalists in 2021, and wild cards Serbia and Great Britain, are entitled to qualify for the 2022 group stage.
