Davis Cup captain Michael Kohlmann has nominated Germany’s top player Alexander Zverev for the qualifier against Brazil in Rio de Janeiro on March 4th and 5th.
Zverev was disqualified early on after freaking out at the tournament in Acapulco, and shortly afterwards he declared his willingness to compete in the Davis Cup.
“We’re happy that Alexander is here. His behavior in Acapulco was unquestionably unacceptable and wrong. Alexander recognized that himself and apologized for it. We now want to help him as a team to get through the difficult phase,” said Kohlmann.
Kohlmann deleted Daniel Altmaier from the squad. In addition to Zverev, Jan-Lennard Struff, Oscar Otte and for the doubles Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz are also at the start in Rio. The winner of the duel qualifies for the group stage of the top 16 teams in September. Zverev last played for Germany in the Davis Cup in 2019.
