She is now a celebrated singer, but it is not that long ago that Davina Michelle made her debut. Only in 2017 did she make her first TV appearance, namely on De Wereld Draait Door. In fact, that was her very first public appearance ever. The reason? She had sung a Pink song on YouTube and the world star was lyrical about it.

Media moment

Davina’s team immediately wanted to take action when they heard that Pink was going to compliment her in a video. “It was so that Pink’s reaction video was going to be online and I had never done any performances or anything myself and I just thought: that’s nice, great that Pink does that,” she explains in the talk show Beau.

She continues: “But the boys immediately had something like this: we have to go to the media, to the press, we have a story, a moment! I was still completely unfamiliar with everything and then DWDD heard about it and said: ‘Okay, when will it be online?’ And then of course we started trying to make contact with America.”

‘We were ready’

Davina wanted to find out exactly what time Pink’s reaction video would be online. “They said: ‘It will be online at seven o’clock.’ And DWDD was also at seven o’clock. Then they said: ‘You can come, but only if the video is online.’ Then you just hope that everything turns out well. We were completely ready there.”

When Davina arrived at DWDD, that video was not yet online. Host Beau van Erven Dorens: “They actually didn’t want to give you that stage at a time when it wouldn’t really be officially very big as you had claimed?”

A little crazy

Davina understands that. “Well, it is of course a bit strange if you sit there with a story that cannot be checked, of course.”

Beau: “So it ended well?”

Davina: “In the end… We were all set and just before DWDD started we were refreshing on YouTube all the time, like: is that video already online, otherwise we can go home! It was a huge moment. We finally heard at 7:05 PM that it was online. That was crazy.”
