Davide Renne is the new creative director

Moschino has appointed Davide Renne to the role of creative director.

In this position, Renne will be responsible for the women’s, men’s and accessories collections of the Italian fashion house’s main line, Moschino announced on Monday. He reports directly to Massimo Ferretti, Executive Chairman of Moschino parent Aeffe SpA.

“We are all impressed by Davide’s extremely sophisticated vision of the power of fashion to create a living dialogue with the world around us, and by his deep understanding of the heritage of the House of Moschino and our codes,” said Ferretti. “He is a brilliant designer and a special person: Franco [Anm. d. Red.: Moschino, Gründer des gleichnamigen Modehauses] “I used to say that bad manners are the only true bad taste, and when I met Davide I was impressed not only by his obvious talent, but also by his kindness and his sensitivity.”

New creative director comes from Gucci

Renne comes to Moschino from Gucci. He worked for the subsidiary of the French luxury goods group Kering SA for almost 20 years and was responsible for the women’s collections, most recently as head designer of womenswear. Before that, he held senior design positions at the Italian leather specialist Ruffo and the Italian brand Alessandro Dell’Acqua, according to his profile on the career network Linkedin. He will take up his new role at Moschino on November 1st. Renne is scheduled to present his first collection for FW24 at Milan Fashion Week in February.

“We are confident that he will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Moschino, a global house with an Italian heart and a truly unique DNA in the luxury industry,” said Ferretti.

Renne succeeds Jeremy Scott

At Moschino, Renne follows in the footsteps of Jeremy Scott, who left the fashion house in March after about ten years in the position as creative director. The American took over the creative direction in October 2013 from Rossella Jardini, who was the first female designer to take over the creative direction after the death of Franco Moschino in 1994.

“Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: ‘la sala giochi’ – the playroom,” Renne said. “That says a lot to me: What fashion – especially Italian fashion and especially the house of Moschino – can achieve with its enormous power should be achieved with a feeling of play, of joy. A sense of discovery and experimentation.”

The last collection in September was a 40th anniversary celebration of Moschino, with the four stylists Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Lucia Liu taking over the creative direction.

Now Moschino has a new permanent creative director, Renne, who hasn’t been in the spotlight so much yet. He joins a current trend in which relatively unknown designers are taking the lead, such as Sabato De Sarno at Gucci, Peter Hawkings at Tom Ford, Seán McGirr at Alexander McQueen and Chemena Kamali at Chloé.

“I am very aware of the honor that Mr. Ferretti, a gentleman who listened in an almost paternal way when we met and established a dialogue, did me by taking over the house founded by one of the great minds of fashion,” said the new Moschino creative director. “So thank you, Mr. Ferretti, for giving me the keys to your playroom. I can’t wait to get started – we’re going to have a lot of fun. Together.”
