Former top cyclist, Italian Davide Rebellin51, died in a cycling accident in northern Italy in the province of Vicenza on the last day of November.
The local police investigate the accident and suspect the German truck driver of the crime. According to the newspaper Il Gazzettino, the 62-year-old German crashed with Rebellini and then fled the scene.
According to witnesses, the truck driver had stopped at the scene of the accident and also left his vehicle. However, the driver is said to have immediately jumped back into the driver’s seat and gassed across the border into Germany.
The police identified the vehicle and the driver using, among other things, security camera footage.
According to the newspaper, the German driver has not been arrested and it is possible that a European arrest warrant will be issued for him.
Rebellin’s brother Carlo found out shortly after the tragic event that an accident had occurred in the area. The brother went to the scene of the accident and immediately recognized that the completely broken bicycle was his brother’s.

Rebellin was successful in road cycling, especially in the 1990s and the first decade of the 2000s. Rebellin had one stage win under his belt at the Tour of Italy in 1996. Later, he was successful in one-day races.
At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Rebellin finished second in the road race, but later lost his medal due to a doping scandal.
Rebellini’s barrow did not emerge until around 2009. He raved about Cera, which was called the “new generation” epo hormone at the time.
Rebellin competed again this year.
