David LaChapelle – Lightning: the exhibition is in Trieste

david LaChapelle – Lightning retraces the 50-year career of one of the most influential and stimulating artists on the world scene. On display, in an immersive and exciting journey, 92 works of a thousand colors and, for the first time, 10 extra-large format images that make an already unique and enthralling journey even more spectacular.

At the center of this rich exhibition are the natural phenomena which, combined with the actions of man, chaos and paradise, know how to generate a disruptive force, capable of crystallizing and illuminating the moment. A typical action of lightning, but also of the flash of the photographer intent on immortalizing a moment.

David LaChapelle – Lightning thus gives the artist the opportunity to lay bare his reflections on humanity: work after work, it will be possible to experience the drama of the moment in the beginning, first immortalized in a majestic cruise ship reassembled in the shape of a glacier, then in a modern-day deluge that threatens the future of Las Vegas and, finally, in some biblical stories materialized in contemporary visions.

There are also more intimate scenes, referring to landscapes populated by angels, saints, flowers and mythological figuresthe result of an artisanal work in which the images are elaborated by LaChapelle with pictorial interventions on the negatives: a technique that allows the artist to obtain a unique and unmistakable whole.

Going into the details of the exhibition, the works collected in the spaces of the Salone degli Incanti tell the two artistic phases of the career by David LaChapelle:

  • the first that immortalizes the decade at the turn of the new millennium in an irreverent keywith caricatures of situations and behaviors assumed by personalities from music, cinema, fashion and politics.
  • the second, however, which projects his work into a new, more aesthetic and mystical dimensionin which the impact of the past on art emerges and the search for oneself in nature.

«There are many stories that are told in this exhibition called Lightning. – Declares David LaChapelle during the press conference -. Lightning when it strikes is like inspiration that arrives unexpectedly. It’s electricity. Make a link and light up. I hope in the same way with my art to illuminate, to get in touch with the observer. In my career I have never been interested in what art could give me, but in what I could give to the world through my works. So I hope to create works that are understandable by the viewer without ambiguity, uncertainty, confusion and darkness, connecting with the public through a connection that is electric force and meeting people who, in fact, I do not know. This is the purpose of what I do. I hope to give hope and faith, as well as instill optimismtouch the visitors, make them smile».

The exhibition David LaChapelle – Lightning it is curated by David LaChapelle’s studio with the artistic direction of Gianni Mercurio, is promoted by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Municipality of Trieste and is organized by PromoTurismoFVG in collaboration with Madeinart.
