TO ten years since the death of David Bowie, Rai 3 celebrates English musical genius with the broadcast – tonight at 9.30pm – Of Moonage Daydreamthe only documentary authorized by the heirs of the White Duke. Made by Brett Morgen, it is a doc over two hours long very rich in precious archive materials. A visual and musical journey breathtaking that captures the true creative essence of one of the most innovative artists ever.

Morgen, former author of Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heckha worked for five years harvesting films, personal diaries and recordings provided by the artist’s children, the David Bowie Estate and his wife Iman. The result is MD a sort of first authorized biography, with privileged access to unpublished and private material of the artist makes the figure of Bowie an exciting portrait. A account of the thoughts and ideas expressed by the same protagonist who here takes on the role of narrative voice of history.

The artist’s philosophical reflections they add depth and introspectionallowing entry in touch with the vision of the world of the singer. The absence of a traditional chronological structure also reflects Bowie’s free and experimental nature.

Packed with live performances, it contains over 48 remastered songs, including the title song, song from 1971, and all the other tracks most important to the artist together with unreleased versions and mixes of music and dialogue created exclusively. Among the most memorable moments is Bowie’s final performance as his alter ego Ziggy Stardust together with Jeff Beck, one unreleased version of Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me played live during the 1974 Soul Tour and the first version of the song Quicksand.

David Bowie: life and death ten years ago at the age of 69

Born in London in 1947, David Bowie was one of the most influential and innovative figures in pop and rock music of the 20th century. His career, characterized by continuous artistic experimentation and frequent stylistic transformations, has spanned over five decades, making him an essential point of reference in culture contemporary.

From a very young age, Bowie showed a strong interest in musicwhich led him to study the saxophone and initially approach jazz and rhythm and blues. After being part of several bands, he achieved international fame as a soloist in the early 70s, perfecting the glam rock through a theatrical, ambiguous and provocative aestheticcombined with refined and innovative musical writing.

Parallel to musical activity, Bowie also dedicated himself to visual arts and cinema. In career he acted in films such as The Man Who Fell to Earth, Furyo, Miriam Wakes at Midnight, Labyrinth And The Prestige of his friend Christopher Nolan. On the night between 10 and 11 January 2016, Bowie died in New York due to the irremediable worsening of a liver tumoragainst whom he had secretly fought for about 18 months.
