Berlin (AP) – Christoph Daum is concerned about German club football because of the numerous coach changes in the Bundesliga.
“I don’t think the high turnover that we have in the head coaching position is expedient for German football,” said the long-time Bundesliga coach at the “Bild100 Sport” media event in Berlin.
The 68-year-old justified his opinion by saying that these changes always entail adjustments in many areas. “For the players, a change of coach always means a change in the game system, the approach, the team management. That means a permanent reorientation, which then always takes time,” explained Daum.
In Daum’s opinion, the clubs focus too much on the commitment of a head coach and would neglect to consider his assistant coaches and assistants. “What I keep hearing is that you hire a head coach and the team, which consists of two, three, five people, is actually not checked at all,” said the former coach of Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Cologne.
It is incredibly important that you see the entire coaching staff and not attach everything to the head coach. “We certainly have room for improvement there, as far as the clubs are concerned, so that we can focus on continuity in football, which is very important there,” said Daum.
